Who we are (in order of appearance):My name is Joe Hanekom, I have been a ‘career’ locum vet for the last three years. It is no secret that there is a shortage of locums. On board is Dorothy Breed a vet who has contributed some fine articles and done a lot of the marketing. Cornell Kortenhoeven our dedicated student who will be our marketer. Farai Madzima our resident IT genius and Web designer who designed the updated professional version of Nomadvets.
How did it start? The Nomadvets idea began in November 2007 when looking for a short locum. After having been inundated with calls of job availability for the previous month all of a sudden nothing. Without being called up there was no way to organize jobs without doing so months in advance. Because of this there are not many people doing locums and on the whole practices and locums suffer. So I decided to rectify this by making a website for South African Vets
The Name: The idea came while driving in the Transkei thinking about how we liked the traveling and not being tied down. That locums were in essence veterinary nomads moving from one fertile spot to another. The name stuck.
The Idea: Simple, practices advertise jobs to Vets, Vet Nurses, Receptionists and Kennel Hands online. This means jobs are seen from the moment they are posted. No phoning around, no middle men and easy to find the right job. Easy to access and easy to arrange jobs.
The Future: We want to make nomadvets a national veterinary linking website. We hope to provide all links that will enhance day to day practice. We want to expand the job site to the rest of the world and maybe into other fields. Short term sorting out some of the errors that have been coming through
